I need me a UX Superhero!

Shortly after falling in love with the realm of recruitment*, I became enamored with user experience. Fortunately for me, I’m able to combine my passion for both in my work, and have done so since UX was called “Information Architecture” way back when.

This agency's work makes me positively giddy. This thriving and pioneering shop in Austin, Texas is adding a VP-level Group Director, User Experience Design role to head up their growing UX practice across their four offices.

Let me tell you a little bit about the company. It's a 25+ year old, privately- and woman-owned boutique, so there are no stockholders dictating them how to treat their employees or clients. This gives them a lot of flexibility to pursue and do the type of work they want. They focus on people first, which is an attitude that has led to great work and success over the years. Their culture is one of innovation crafted with soul, in that innovation is at the heart of everything, but it's crafted with a 'hand touch'. It's more than just technology though; as they’re always at the forefront of trying out new things. The soul part is who they are as a people - a very kind, Texas-friendly organization with high standards and expectations.  A highly enforced, top-down, “no egos or @$$holes allowed” policy reigns true here and safeguards their phenomenal culture. They were initially known for their branding work, but these days they are a solid think tank that is constantly re-imagining and reinventing the digital and physical realm. Over the years, they have grown to 250 people spread across four states, but the majority of the UX team resides in their Austin Headquarters, which is where this position is located.

The VP, Group Director, User Experience Design position reports to the COO, a former UX leader and colleague of mine (and helluva nice guy)  who was overseeing the team for a while. This company has invested heavily in User Design as a practice and capability, and as a result, are winning a lot of research-, user experience- and design-centric engagements. Given this, it’s time for the COO to add a VP-level leader to focus 100% on the UX Design practice. This is an ideal career move for a relationship-builder who is passionate about the industry, ready to join a leadership team, where s/he can leave his/her mark on shaping a discipline, selecting design methodology, and building out, coaching and managing a team while working on some very memorable engagements.

Sound good so far? As much as I like these people and their culture, it's their work that gives me goosebumps. After all, these are the folks behind the one of my favorite desk accessories. Some of their other projects include:

  • A bot that uses AI to track how the stock market reacts to tweets in real time, powers trades and donates profits to an animal welfare organization (So they're helping homeless animals, too!)
  • A VR sensory immersion that will blow you away
  • A massive global communication plan announcing the launch of global client's new website. Web site visuals, site tours, demo videos, social posts and e-marketing accompanied users on an multifaceted e-expedition that humanized big data (including 500+ assets versioned for use in 200+ countries) and projected it in a more visualized, accessible way.
About You:
Personality-wise, you’re a super smart, hands-on leader, with an upbeat energy and enthusiasm for future forward technology that’s positively infectious.
  • 10-15 years’ overall experience in user experience design, with at least 2 + years’ experience at the director level, and a management and mentorship style that enables people to realize their best potential
  • You’re an active and well-known leader in your UX community, and have a highly regarded blog or have published papers on UX-centric subject matters, as well as judged UX design award shows and spoken at conferences
  • Both feet firmly planted in the digital realm. You’re an active participant in the design scene and you’re constantly thinking about “the next wave of the future”, digitally and otherwise. Your entrepreneurial spirit and proactive personality help you stay abreast of technological innovations in graphic, user- and experience design
  • Exceptional client presentation skills complemented by your ability to articulate and justify your vision and rationale for design decisions to clients and colleagues alike
  • Direct experience creating pure brand interactive, social, and mobile experiences, and combining them with emerging technologies to creating new products or experiences, ranging from bots to beacons, and everything in between, including AI, AR, iTV &/or VR. That being said, you don’t pursue trends simply for the sake of for the sake of staying on trend. For you, the means has to justify the end goal, and it’s all about creating well-designed items and the stories they maintain over their lives.

Business Development Specialist Wanted for Thriving Ad Agency Team; Boston, MA

This agency isn't well known outside of New England, but it's competing successfully on a national level and generating a lot of buzz within Boston's advertising community. Business is great, but thanks to a highly successful expansion plan, they'd like to bring in more new business - which is why they are adding a Business Development Specialist to their flourishing team.At this shop, it's all about the people - so they are willing to entertain the candidacy and title/level of any candidates with 5-10 years' of experience and a proven track record of building his/her own book of business in the healthcare, financial services, and consumer packaged goods (CPG) verticals. We are pitching on a national account level, and expect you to do the same. You will manage 2 business development associates in this role. This role isn't about upselling to existing clients - we have people who do that already. 

We're a little different from all the other shops out there. We're privately owned, so we don't have to report to the stockholders every time business dips by .001%. Their proprietary process has amplified the brand voices of several Fortune 100 companies over the past few years, driving and amplifying their audiences' engagement through the roof. 

• Oversee the successful planning, strategy and execution of social media and multi-media marketing campaigns
• Maintain regular communication with clients and colleagues on campaign status, performance, and opportunities
• Identify,  discuss and test new ad trends and capabilities on social and multi-media platforms; maintain expertise across social media platforms as they evolve.

Research top influencers, competitors, and trends in clients’ industries 
Participate in new business pitches, RFPs

Must have's:

• 1-3 years' agency experience with a focus on multi-media marketing 
• 1-3 years social media marketing experience (Facebook, Twitter, Vimeo, Instagram, Pinterest, Snapchat, etc.)

Sr. Manager, User Experience Strategy wanted for 100% UX-driven shop; Boston, MA


One of my favorite clients has enlisted my help to add a Sr. Manager, User Experience Strategy to their growing team.

This is a privately owned, 100% UX-driven and independent division of a traditional shop. They specialize in designing and optimizing digital experiences, products, services, and environments for clients seeking new ways to drive their business or solve business challenges through innovation. and their primary focus of work is: 1) cultural transformation; 2) consulting with start-ups; 3) solving complex business challenges via digital and/or physical (product) solutions; and 4) occasional branding campaigns. Their cultural transformation work has been so successful, they’ve been written up twice in Forrester over the past year.  

In addition to having a diverse client list (and no financial services clients!), this agency's culture and work/life balance are just fantastic. The work environment is open, highly collaborative and entrepreneurial. It’s all about doing smart work here vs. burning the midnight oil. Their perks are sweet, too. Four weeks' PTO, 2 weeks’ company shutdown, summer Fridays, a paid trip (for you and a plus one) each year, a healthy bonus and profit-sharing plan, and a very relaxed work environment make for a low turnover here. Boston digital shop seeks savvy digital marketer with 2-3 years' exp. to join their Ad Ops Team!



My client is one of Boston's top 100% digital agencies, a 150+-person shop that helps brands create digital strategies that lead to big ideas that live seamlessly across digital channels - web, social, mobile, online video search and/or experiential. Business is booming! In fact, they've grown by over 300% over the past few years.  

Culturally, this company has a model that sets them apart from the rest. They try to hire collaborative talent that share the same passion for digital marketing and enjoy coming to work. Work/life balance is huge here, which is why they have reasonable work hours, a low turnover and high employee loyalty. Given this, it's no surprise that they've landed on those "best places to work" lists for 5 years' running. And now they need to add a digital marketing specialist to join their digital media ops team. The person in this role will collaborate with internal teams to launch digital campaigns and ensure campaign tracking will meet campaign and client needs and objectives. This includes making sure campaigns are live and running in accordance with the ad specs, media plan and flow chart specs, as well as tracking and monitor campaign performance, and generating performance reports and assisting with the finance reconciliation process. The ideal candidate for this position will have 2-3 years' experience in a similar role.
